After decades immersed in the world of jiu-jitsu, I’ve come to a resounding realization: potential is abundant in all of us. Even those who may seem unbalanced, unathletic, out of shape, or weak possess the potential to excel in jiu-jitsu—not just to be good, but to be truly great.

How long does it take to become kickass?

As a seasoned martial artist in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, my reflections delve into the real-world effectiveness of BJJ in street fights. Incorporating striking techniques proved transformative, emphasizing skills like distance control, strike defense, clinching, takedowns, and ground control. It’s crucial to nurture well-rounded martial artists with technical proficiency and practical self-defense skills. In my view, being versed in jiu-jitsu and striking, can handle untrained opponents after. However, ethical considerations arise, stressing the need for character development alongside physical prowess. This perspective sheds light on the diverse advantages of BJJ training beyond the confines of sport.
