CIA PAULISTA JIU-JITSU AND MMA

John Mendoza was born on July 22, 1972, in New York, New York and moved to Los Angeles in 1973. His family moved to a suburban ranch home in Huntington Beach in 1978 where he was raised. He grew up heavily influenced by surfing, soccer and later on martial arts and living his life in sync with the jiujitsu lifestyle. Johnny – as he is known to friends and family – spent decades observing, learning, and training with many of the most notable martial artists including Rickson Gracie, Waldomiro Perez, Jr., Joe Moreira, Tito Ortiz, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Rob “Razor” McCullough, Dean Lister and Fabiano Iha.

The youngest of seven siblings, three of which passed away at birth, Johnny was raised in a family where all members learned to get along, share, and learn from one another. Respect for his parents was instilled from an early age and family was central to his day-to-day life. His parents immigrated from Ecuador and he grew up watching how hard his parents worked to achieve the American Dream. This instilled a strong work ethic in Johnny, which was essential through his jiujitsu training. These home dynamics developed into an ideal for life to him. In many ways, Professor Johnny is replicating these communal ideals on a larger scale – the environment that nurtured his personal development in his old suburban ranch home. There are those who even attribute the success he has had in an array of different fields to being the result of that philosophy.
